Be your own Boss but another’s` leader.

Hello friends, today’s topic is about how we treat those who work for us, acknowledging that this blog is directed to entrepreneurs or aspiring entrepreneurs, this topic should be important to you as an entrepreneur in addition if you feel otherwise or wish to top up, drop a comment!

As entrepreneurs, we aim at making profit, disrupting systems and achieving great things so it could occur that we end up stepping on people`s toes.

There are many cases where major multinational corporations mistreat their employees in order to make the most of their labor but of course this is not right. In some cases employees are not paid in time, they are not respected, they are undermined, insulted and in the worst cases beaten. Other employees work with so much uncertainty because they are not sure if they will maintain the job, they have no social security benefits and end up very dissatisfied with their jobs.

You may be faced with moral dilemmas which may ask you to exploit a worker, partner or friend to get something done, now I am not here to tell what you should do, that’s your choice but I will give a few business reasons why, how you treat your workers, matters.

WHY TO TREAT YOUR WORKERS WITH RESPECT

  • Your character is reflected in the way you treat your laborers: People will assess your character based on the way you treat your others, your workers might seem lower than you but they ARE really just people like you.

  • Work culture affects productivity: Workers who are constantly mistreated will have no motivation to reach their full potential in their jobs, they might get the job done but will not do to the best of their ability.

  • The integrity of your business is on the line: Your workers whether you like it or not are an important part of your business and in so many cases represent you, so it’s up to you to make sure that they represent what you want them to.

  • Your workers are your best marketers: The very people you employ go around talking about your business and paint a first-hand image on the society about you and your business. What kind of image would you want that to be?

  • You might lose quality workers: Loyal employees maybe lost and who can find good help these days.

  • People are watching: People are always watching, especially competitors, and will take advantage of any flaw in your organisation to bring you down.

Good Business relationships must be carefully maintained because after all it`s all business, so don`t step on people on your way up because you will need them on your way down. That does not forecast failure but it means that in difficult times, you will need the loyalty and respect of your employees to overcome crisis.

Be your own Boss but another’s` leader.
